WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue football team's annual "Kick-Off Luncheon" will be held Friday, Aug.21, with former Purdue head coach Jim Young on hand as the featured speaker at this year's event. The Luncheon will begin at 11:15 a.m. in the Purdue Memorial Union Ballroom.
Young coached the Boilermakers from 1977 to 81, compiling a 38-19-1 record including three bowl victories. After the '81 season, Young moved into athletic administration for a year, then accepted the head coaching position at Army. In 1984, he was honored by the Football Writers Association of New York as its "Coach of the Year."
Master of ceremonies at the luncheon will be former Boilermaker center, Pete Quinn, who played under Young from 1977 to 80 and was a two-time captain.
Joe Tiller will introduce his staff and the 1998 team at the luncheon. Tiller will also discuss his plans for a successful football season. Purdue President Dr. Steven Beering and Athletic Director Morgan Burke will be among the speakers at the event.
This is the 55th annual Purdue Football Kick-Off Luncheon sponsored by the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce. Cost per ticket is $16 or $96 for a table of six. Two football players will be seated at each table of six. All seats are reserved on a first come first serve basis. Door prizes will be given away.
