WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue sports information office is preparing to launch CurtisPainter12.com to promote fifth-year quarterback Curtis Painter as a Heisman Trophy candidate.
The site, which is slated to go live July 24, will include updated news and notes regarding Painter as he takes aim at breaking numerous Purdue and Big Ten Conference passing records. The site also will be chock full of video features and highlights.
In addition, Painter is one of 22 college football players who will write weekly columns in Sporting News Today, the nation's first digital daily sports section. Painter will cover topics on the field and off it, from the big game of the week to the life of a student-athlete.
Painter's columns will be linked from the Artist's Musings section of CurtisPainter12.com, as well.
Also as part of Painter's promotion, the SID office is publishing an August 2008-January 2009 calendar
with facts and figures and a highlight DVD. Both will be distributed to members of the media beginning at the Big Ten Kickoff Luncheon activities on July 24.
Painter, from Vincennes, Ind., has started the Boilermakers' last 32 games, dating to 2005, and ranks in the career top four in school history with a .599 completion percentage (second), 1,269 passing attempts (fourth), 760 completions (fourth), 8,763 passing yards (fourth), 54 passing touchdowns (fourth) and 9,101 yards of total offense (fourth). He was honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2006 and 2007 and is a candidate for numerous national honors this season. Painter was named Most Valuable Player of the 2007 Motor City Bowl after setting a school record with 546 passing yards in Purdue's 51-48 victory over Central Michigan.
