The Manning Passing Academy, July 10-13
The Manning Passing Academy was a great experience. I think above all it was a great chance to meet players and coaches from around the country, at the high school, college, and even pro level. It is amazing how kids are excited about football. Kids came from all over the country to attend this camp. The camp was for high school football players and it was very easy see their excitement and passion for football.
The days were pretty hot, near New Orleans, Louisiana, as you can imagine. Throughout the days we worked 2-3 sessions of coaching where we worked drills with the high school kids. At night, there were 7-on-7 sessions where each coach attending was assigned a group of players and played against other teams. At night, we also had various social events for the coaches involving some great food and a chance to network and meet all of the coaches and college players attending. The only other Big Ten quarterback there was Brian Hoyer from Michigan State. Matt Stafford from Georgia, Zac Robinson from Oklahoma State, Jevan Snead from Ole Miss also were there. It was good to get a chance to hang out with Matt because we will also be at the Elite 11 camp together, so we both are looking forward to that as well.
I think the coolest things for me were: #1 obviously being able to meet great current professional quarterbacks (Peyton and Eli), but also #2 getting a chance to meet other collegiate quarterbacks from around the country. Being able to meet and develop a friendship with these guys that I always hear about on Saturday's was a great experience for me. Overall, it was a lot of fun working with the kids and teaching them mechanics and football in general, and it was a great way to network and meet many people throughout the football ranks from across the U.S.
