WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Augusta Sports Council has announced that Purdue senior Cody Webster has been named to the preseason watch list for the 2013 Ray Guy Award, which honors the nation's top collegiate punter.
Webster is coming off a 2012 season that saw him punt 70 times for 2,961 yards (42.3 avg.), place 29 of his 70 kicks inside the opposition's 20-yard line, have 17 punts go over 50 yards and 20 of them get fair caught. He finished last season second in the Big Ten Conference and 33rd nationally in punting average.
Webster enters his final year in college with three of the top nine season punting averages at Purdue, second in school history in career punting average (42.8) and sixth all-time at Purdue in total punts (162).
Former Purdue punter Travis Dorsch won the Ray Guy Award in 2001 after booting 53 balls for 2,547 yards, an average of 48.1 yards per kick.
