2018 Purdue Football Schedule / Season-Ticket Information
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Boilermakers had six players represented on Athlon's preseason All-Big Ten teams. The group included two second team members, one third-teamer and three on the conference's fourth team.
Senior center Kirk Barron, a 2017 team captain, highlighted the offensive recognition with second team honors. Barron, a two-year starter for the Boilermakers, anchored a line for an offense that averaged 403.1 yards of total offense and 25.2 points per game in 2017.
Junior linebacker Markus Bailey, Purdue's leading returning tackler from 2017, was named second team All-Big Ten by the publication. Bailey wrapped up his sophomore season with 89 total stops, including 11.0 for loss with 7.0 sacks, an interception, a fumble forced, a fumble recovered and two PBUs. He will be the primary focus of Purdue's defense in the upcoming 2018 season.
Senior punter Joe Schopper was feted with third team preseason recognition by Athlon after finishing the 2017 season with an average of 40.5 yards per kick. Schopper placed 30 of his 72 punts inside the opposition's 20-yard line and had 16 kicks of 50 or more yards, including 68-yarder at Iowa.
Tight end Brycen Hopkins, defensive tackle Lorenzo Neal and safety Navon Mosley, all juniors, were named to Athlon's fourth team All-Big Ten list. Hopkins finished the 2017 season with 25 receptions for 349 yards and three scores. Neal, who appeared in all 13 games last season with 12 starts, finished the year with 22 tackles with 5.5 for loss and pair of sacks as a disruptive force in the middle of the defense. Mosley, who picked off a pair of passes, broke up three others, recovered a pair of fumble and forced another, finished fifth for Purdue with 65 total tackles in 2017.
The Boilermakers open the 2018 season Aug. 30 against Northwestern at Ross-Ade Stadium.
