Three former Purdue football standouts were selected in last week's NFL Draft and another signed a free agent contract. The trio of Boilermaker draftees are the most in recent memory.

Wide receiver Brian Alford was picked in the third round (70th overall selection) by the New York Giants, offensive lineman Mark Fischer was a fifth-round choice (140th overall) of the Washington Redskins and running back Ed Watson was a seventh-round draft (218th overall) of the Green Bay Packers. Fischer, who played tackle at Purdue, will be asked to perform at center and guard.

Additionally, tight end Jon Blackman will try out with the Detroit Lions as a free agent.
