WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - After going undrafted, former Purdue players Taylor Stubblefield and Jon Goldsberry signed free-agent contracts with NFL teams Sunday.

Stubblefield inked with the Carolina Panthers, while Goldsberry joined the Buffalo Bills.

Stubblefield, a 6-foot, 174-pound wide receiver, is the NCAA career receptions leader with 316. He actually had 325 catches, but the NCAA did not count bowl games until 2002, negating Stubblefield's nine catches in the 2001 Sun Bowl. He ranks second in Big Ten Conference history with 3,629 receiving yards, trailing only John Standeford of Purdue with 3,788 yards.

As a senior, Stubblefield became Purdue's first consensus All-America receiver since Bernie Flowers in 1952. He was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the nation's outstanding receiver, after catching 89 passes (third on the Purdue season list) for 1,095 yards (sixth on the Purdue season list) and a school-record 16 touchdowns. His 16 scores are the third-most in Big Ten history, behind Desmond Howard of Michigan (19 in 1991) and Terry Glenn of Ohio State (17 in 1995).

Jon Goldsberry was a special teams standout for the Boilermakers.

Goldsberry, a 6-2, 241-pound fullback, played linebacker his first three years at Purdue. He also was a special teams standout. As a senior, Goldsberry rushed for 52 yards on 13 carries (4.0 average) with one touchdown. He caught two passes for 16 yards. Goldsberry accumulated 37 career tackles (19 solo and 18 assists).

Former Purdue running back Joey Harris (2001-02) is in his second year with the Panthers. Defensive tackle Jeff Zgonina is the only other former Boilermakers to play for Carolina, which joined the league in 1995.

Twelve former Boilermakers have played for the Bills, but none since running back Bruce King in 1986 and 1987.

Carolina finished 7-9 last season, while Buffalo was 9-7.
