WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue running back Al-Terek McBurse has been certified by the NCAA Eligibility Center and is eligible to compete for the Boilermakers.

McBurse, a 6-foot, 204-pounder from Winter Springs, Fla., graduated early from high school and enrolled at Purdue in January. He was not able to participate in spring practice.

"Obviously, this is great news for Al-Terek and our football team," Purdue head coach Danny Hope said. "He is a special player. We appreciate the efforts of the NCAA in doing its due diligence to ensure his eligibility. The NCAA, Al-Terek's high school administration and our compliance office did a great job working together to achieve this result.

"Al-Terek is doing very well in school, and that shows what kind of young man he is to maintain his focus throughout this entire process."

McBurse was tabbed a four-star prospect and ranked the No. 23 running back in the nation by Rivals.com. He rushed for a Seminole County-record 2,238 yards with 23 touchdowns while averaging more than 12 yards per carry as a senior.

"It's a huge relief," McBurse said. "I want to thank my high school and the NCAA for seeing me through the process, and I appreciate Coach Hope and everyone at Purdue sticking with me."
