WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Akeem Hunt scored on a 15-yard rush and Rob Henry connected with Shane Mikesky on a touchdown reception for Team Black in a 14-0 shutout of Team Gold in the spring game at Ross Ade Stadium.
Hunt, who finished the game with 134 yards rushing on 19 carries, capped off an eight-play drive to open the scoring as time expired in the first quarter to stake Team Black to a 7-0 lead. Henry then found Mikesky from eight yards out with 7:20 left in the second quarter.
Henry finished the game 6 for 9 for 75 yards with the touchdown throw. Team Black teammate Danny Etling was 5 of 7 for 54 yards and one interception in his first action as a Boilermaker. Gold Team quarterback Austin Appleby completed 6 of 18 passing attempts for 52 yards with one interception.
Team Gold running back Robert Gregory rushed 13 times for 48 yards in the loss.
Team Black tight end Gabe Holmes led all players with four receptions for 74 yards. Raheem Mostert chipped in with 48 yards receiving on two catches and also had a 40-yard kickoff return for Team Black. Team Gold's B.J. Knauf and Sterling Carter each finished a pair of receptions, finishing 25 and nine yards, respectively.
Defensively, Landau Lang led a players with seven tackles, including six solo stops, for Team Gold. Normondo Harris led Team Black with five solo stops. Team Black's Ryan Russell recorded a sack and Andy James Garcia and Michael Rouse III both came up with interceptions. Jalani Phillips, Collin Link and Bruce Gaston all tallied sacks for Team Gold. Phillips also picked off a pass.
