WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - With a week of spring practices under his belt, sophomore cornerback Royce Adams graciously took time to talk to Purduesports.com after Monday's session. Adams started the final 12 games of his freshman season at cornerback, recording 37 tackles, one interception, one pass breakup and one forced fumble, as well as proving himself a key special teams contributor with his 22 punt returns for 141 yards. This Glenville, Ohio native currently ranks 17th on Purdue's career punt return average list. On Monday, Adams discussed a variety of topics including his thoughts about his freshman campaign, his first spring ball as a Boilermaker and the upcoming season.
On what he recalls as his most unforgettable moment from his freshman season ...
"My most memorable moment was when we were playing Minnesota. We were doing Cover 2 and I came up and hit the running back making his helmet fly off."
On Coach Lou Anarumo's goals for the secondary, as well as for Adams personally ...
"He wants us to get better with our technique and staying in front of the receivers, as well as having a better vision of the field. It's been awhile since we've been out here practicing so a lot of what Coach stresses to me are coverages and my technique. That way when fall comes we'll be ready."
On the secondary's development since his arrival last fall ...
"We've definitely bonded better. We're like brothers. We almost live with each other because we're around each other all the time. It's just a good brotherhood."
On his first spring season at Purdue and how he prepared for it ...
"It's fun. A lot of it is learning and trying to get back to full speed. I did a lot of conditioning and weight training so I would be ready for the spring practices."
On who is surprising him the most so far in spring practices ...
"Justin Scott. He's been making big hits and coming up to fill the gap. He's an athlete."
On what excites him the most about the upcoming season ...
"Just being back out there on the field playing football in front of all of our fans."
On his projected special teams contribution for the upcoming season ...
"I may be returning punts again this season. Also on kickoff returns, right now they have me second behind Dorien Bryant."
On his experience being coached by Ted Ginn, father of the former Ohio State wide receiver, at Glenville High School in Cleveland, Ohio ...
"It was really good. Coach Ginn is a very motivating coach. He was really fun and a cool coach. He's just a people-person. He knows so much about the game, a lot like Coach Anarumo."
On his favorite football movie ...
"There are a few good ones out there. I really like `Remember the Titans' and `Friday Night Lights.'"
