Defense Eats Well

Day 11 News and Notes - Steak and Beans

• The defense ate well, the offense not so much in the annual "Steak and Beans Scrimmage". With the offense needing a touchdown inside the red zone for the win, Albert Evans forced an Akeem Shavers fumble and Joe Holland recovered to hand the defense the victory.

• The defense held the upper hand early, stopping the offense on downs on five of the first six possessions.

• Despite the loss for the offense, Rob Henry and Antavian Edison teamed up for touchdown passes of 26, 16 and 24 yards. The 16-yard score came on a fourth down in the red zone, and the 24-yarder on the second play of a red zone set.

• Henry finished the scrimmage 11 of 15 for 129 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He also rushed for a 53-yard touchdown on the second series of the scrimmage.

Caleb TerBush and Gary Bush hooked for a 37-yard pass on the No. 2s second time on the field.

Josh Johnson and Jarrett Dieudonne intercepted passes on back-to-back possessions, with Dieudonne's going for six points the opposite way. Johnson's was blown dead before a tackle was made.

• In addition to the fumble recovery, Holland finished with a sack and 1.5 tackles for loss. He shared a TFL with Ricardo Allen.

Carson Wiggs kicked field goals of 25 and 39 yards.

Eric Mebane and Robert Maci each recorded a sack.

• Defensive tackles Kawann Short, Bruce Gaston and Ryan Isaac cause trouble all day in the trenches.
