WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Boilermakers were outside Tuesday for their sixth official practice of the spring. The team donned full pads for the second time this spring, after holding its first full contact practice last Thursday.

Randy Melvin is in his first spring on Darrell Hazell’s staff working with the defensive line. He has spent the first few weeks of practice getting the guys to adjust to his style, while also learning from the group and adjusting to them. Melvin is a very detail-oriented coach and told the media after practice that the easiest way for his group to be successful is for them to understand exactly what they need to do down to the last detail.

Hazell also spoke to the media after practice and mentioned Jake Replogle and Eddy Wilson as a couple of guys on the defensive line who have looked good so far this spring. Hazell is pleased with the interior guys on the line and sees strong upside for the guys on the outside, including Gelen Robinson and newcomer Austin Larkin.

The Boilermakers’ next practice is scheduled for Thursday. The remaining practice schedule, include Saturday’s Kick Scrimmage, can be found below.
