Ross-Ade Stadium Renovation Photos

This view from the top row at the north end of the stadium shows the timbers that form a roadway around the playing surface and the demolished sections 9 through 21 The timber roadway allows heavy equipment to travel into and out of the stadium without damaging the playing surface.

The first restroom/concession building is taking shape north of the stadium. When Phase I of the renovation is completed before the start of the 2003 season, concession points of sale will triple. Restroom facilities will increase exponentially, including a fourfold increase in facilities for women.

The outside wall of the stadium will be beyond the outer wall of the restroom/concession buildings, so space for fans to circulate will be vastly increased in the renovated Ross-Ade. Cylindrical support piers are visible at right below the seating area where the old outside fence was located.

Construction of the retaining wall east of North University Drive continues, as does backfilling to provide a level approach to the stadium entrances on the east side of the stadium. After the conclusion of classes in May, North University Drive will be closed for continuing relocation work.

Precast materials awaiting installation line North University Drive. The concourse will extend beyond the existing street on the east side of Ross-Ade. If ticket demand continues strong after the completion of the first phase of the renovation, a 10,000-seat deck will be built on the east side of the stadium.

Workers lower precast panels into place along the west side of the Intercollegiate Athletic Facility. To provide maximum space for the concourse on the east and west sides of the stadium, the relocated Beering and North University drives will be one-way roads that are a lane-and-a-half wide.

This view from Hilltop Apartments shows not only the size of the pavilion but the distinctive roofline. By the start of the 2002 season, the fourth floor and portions of the second floor will be completed.

Beering Drive is crowded with construction equipment and work continues on the pavilion. On the west side of the stadium, the concourse will be leveled before the start of the 2002 season. Leveling on the east side will take place after the 2002 season.

The loading dock area at the southwest corner of the stadium that will serve production trucks for televised games is taking shape. The visiting team locker room that is partly visible at right will not be affected by the renovation project.

This view from the parking lot of the Boilermaker Aquatic Center shows the pavilion beyond Owen Residence Hall. Slayter Center of Performing Arts is at left.

As a result of the ongoing construction work, the Spring Game will be held at Carmel High School north of Indianapolis. The game will be April 20 at 4 p.m.

All access to the interior of Ross-Ade Stadium is restricted. Ordinarily at this time of year the stadium would be prepped for spring football and would be in regular use by student-athletes running steps.
