CHICAGO - Purdue's Akeem Shavers has earned the Marines Running Back Performance of the Year, Intersport announced today. Shavers won week 16 with his career-high 149-yard performance in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl where he named the game's MVP and helped the Boilermakers to a 37-32 win over Western Michigan. Shavers competed against 17 other weekly running back winners from this season's competition. The announcement of Shavers' victory came during the "2012 All-Star Football Challenge" which was televised on ESPN2.

Shavers joins three other Performance of the Year winners: McMurry's Jake Mullin, named FRS Quarterback Performance of the Year; Miami-Ohio's Nick Harwell, named Mercedes-Benz Receiver Performance of the Year; and Nevada's Brett Roy, named Defensive Performance of the Year.

The 2012 All-Star Football Challenge was held at SportZone in Indianapolis Thursday, Feb 2. The 14th annual event showcased 12 college football standouts competing in an exciting and entertaining skills challenge. The ESPN broadcast team included Mark Jones, Jesse Palmer, Joey Galloway, Danny Kanell and Samantha Steele. The All-Star Football Challenge, which is annually hosted in the Super Bowl city, is one of seven live television properties owned and operated by Intersport, an award-winning media and marketing agency.
