WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley has been invited to play in the 2018 Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, on Jan. 27. He is the first Boilermaker to be extended an invitation to the all-star contest since defensive tackle Kawann Short in 2013.

Bentley, who was voted captain by his teammates three times at Purdue, is coming off a senior season that saw him lead the team with 97 total tackles, including 11.5 for losses and a sack. He returned an interception 76 yards for a touchdown against Minnesota and forced a pair of fumbles vs. No. 16 Louisville. He was named the Foster Farms Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player after finishing with eight tackles, two for loss, against Arizona at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Dec. 27.

A four-year starter for the Boilermakers, Bentley ended his collegiate career with 272 total stops, while ranking among the top 20 players in school history with 29.5 career tackles for loss.
