On last drive:
"We were getting ourselves in position to win the ball game. Robert (Marve) has a fantastic arm. He is one of the most gifted passers that I have been around. He's had a rough career with the injuries, we all know the story. Hats off to him to play the game with all the courage that he has. Our line did a good job with the protection. We knew that if we could get protection for our quarterback, that Robert Marve could be a difference maker like he was today. The last drive we didn't have any second guesses in our minds that if we could protect for Robert, we could kick a field goal."
On if Griggs was the choice all along:
"He is our long ball guy going into the ball game. Obviously Sam (McCartney) is our short ball guy going into the ball game. Those are the field goals that Griggs has kicked most constantly throughout the course of our practices."
On kick boosting Griggs confidence:
"It's going to be huge for Paul (Griggs), but hats off to any freshman that is a starter in Big Ten football. Playing in a game right out of high school is unbelievable. They have a great venue here, a fantastic crowd, packed house. We have great fans at Purdue, and they have lots of great fans here at Iowa. It was a packed house, another hostile environment. It was a big kick for Paul Griggs, and it will certainly be a difference maker in his development."
