WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Curtis Painter passed for 315 yards and three touchdowns to lead Purdue to a 31-6 win over Iowa on Saturday.

Two of Painter's touchdown passes went to Dorien Bryant, who bounced back from two subpar games to post a career-high 167 yards on nine catches.

Iowa quarterback Jake Christensen completed just 17 of 40 for 177 yards. It was the fewest points Iowa scored against Purdue since a 21-0 loss to the Boilermakers in 1976.

Purdue converted on 12 of 21 third downs, while Iowa converted just 3 of 16.

The Boilermakers, who had been outscored 71-28 in back-to-back losses to Ohio State and Michigan, became bowl eligible with the win. Purdue (6-2, 2-2 Big Ten) gained 431 yards against the Hawkeyes, who entered the game ranked 15th nationally in total defense and ninth in scoring defense.

The Boilermakers snapped a two-game losing streak against the Hawkeyes and avenged last year's 47-17 loss.

Iowa (3-5, 1-4) had broken a four-game losing streak a week ago with a 10-6 upset of Illinois.

Purdue scored on its opening possession, when Painter completed a 14-yard touchdown pass to Dustin Keller to give the Boilermakers a 7-0 lead with 9:28 left in the first quarter.

Later in the quarter, Mike Klinkenborg intercepted a Painter pass at the Purdue 29, and Iowa turned it into points. Daniel Murray made a 35-yard field goal to cut Purdue's lead to 7-3 with 1:33 left in the opening period.

Painter threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Bryant to give the Boilermakers a 14-3 lead with 4:14 left in the second quarter.

Murray made a 31-yard field goal with 8:19 left in the third quarter, and Iowa cut Purdue's lead to 14-6.

Purdue responded on its next possession. Painter found Bryant down the middle for a 33-yard touchdown pass to make it 21-6 with 5:17 left in the third quarter. A 1-yard touchdown run by Kory Sheets increased the lead to 28-6 with 13:26 to play.

Iowa had a chance to score on the ensuing possession, but Purdue's Terrell Vinson intercepted Christensen at the Purdue 3, and the Boilermakers wrapped up the scoring with a 30-yard field goal by Chris Summers.
