Purdue vs. Ball State
September 16, 2006

Purdue is 2-0 and plays host to Minnesota next Saturday, Sept. 23, in the Big Ten opener for both teams. Kickoff is set for noon, and the game will be televised by ESPN2.

The 60-yard Curtis Painter-to-Dustin Keller touchdown play was the longest career pass by Painter and longest career catch by Keller ...

...Until the two hooked up for 69 yards in the second quarter.

Last year's longest passing play was 49 yards from Brandon Kirsch to Charles Davis at Minnesota on Sept. 24. The last time the Boilermakers had a passing play of more than 60 yards was in the 2004 Sun Bowl when Kyle Orton hooked up with Brian Hare.

Keller came up with the first 100-yard receiving game of his career. He ended the game with 148 yards on four receptions.

Terrell Vinson's interception was his first at Purdue - today is his first action as a Boilermaker - and his second at the NCAA Division I level. He had one while playing for Wyoming vs. Brigham Young on Oct. 18, 2003.

The 416-yard performance by Curtis Painter was his first 300-yard game as a Purdue quarterback. He is the 16th quarterback at Purdue to eclipse the 300-yard mark, and the sixth to do so during the Tiller era. He is the sixth all-time Boilermaker quarterback to go over 400 yards in the air, the third under Tiller.

Painter's 416 passing yards marked the 30th time a Boilermaker quarterback has thrown for at least 300 yards under the direction of Joe Tiller. Painter's performance ranks seventh on the 300-yard list under Tiller.

Painter was the first Purdue quarterback to throw for more than 400 yards since Kyle Orton threw for 520 vs. Indiana on Nov. 20, 2004.

Stanford Keglar's recovery of a Ball State fumble in the fourth quarter was the second fumble recovery of his career.

Kory Sheets scored three touchdowns in the game (2 receiving and 1 rushing), marking the fourth consecutive game he has reached the end zone at least three times, dating back to last season. He scored three rushing touchdowns vs. Indiana in 2005, and opened the 2006 season with three rushing scores vs. Indiana State and four rushing touchdowns vs. Miami (Ohio).

Purdue's 93-yard scoring drive in the second quarter, culminating with a three-yard Painter-to-Sheets touchdown pass, was the seventh longest scoring drive for Purdue since the start of the 2000 season.

The Boilermaker offense eclipsed the 500-yard mark, the 33rd time Purdue reached that plateau under Joe Tiller. With 534 total yards on the afternoon, Purdue is now 26-7 under Tiller when reaching the 500-yard level.

Dorien Bryant caught seven passes, moving him to 13th on the Purdue career receptions list with 139. Next on the list is Bart Burrell (1977-80) with 140.

Bryant also moved to 13th on the Purdue career receiving yardage list. His 52 yards vs. Ball State gives him 1,836 in his career. Next on that list is Chris Daniels (1996-99) with 1,845.

The Boilermakers now have a 45-14 record at home under Joe Tiller. They now are 38-5 against unranked opponents.
