Former Purdue player Burt Thornton is in his third season as a graduate assistant, working with the defense.
Thornton was a wide receiver for the Boilermakers from 1991 to 1994. His career totals included 70 catches for 1,092 yards (15.6 average) and three touchdowns. He topped the team with 45 catches for 726 yards his senior season en route to being named honorable mention All-Big Ten and being selected to play in the Blue-Gray Game and Hula Bowl.
Thornton was a member of the Miami Dolphins in 1995 and the Kansas City Chiefs in 1999. He played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League in 1996 and 1997.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Thornton played for two state championship teams at Buchtel High School.
Thornton (born Jan. 30, 1972) earned his bachelor's degree in information technology in 1996. He has a son, Darius, and a daughter, Daylynn.
