Darrell Perkins is in his second season as a graduate assistant at Purdue. He assists with the defense.
Perkins was a running back at Wyoming from 1986-89. Current Purdue head coach Joe Tiller was offensive coordinator at Wyoming in 1987 and 1988, and Perkins often was brought back as a guest speaker during Tiller’s tenure as head coach from 1991-96. Perkins’ career statistics as a blocking back included 24 carries for 125 yards with one touchdown and 14 receptions for 93 yards with one touchdown. He caught his touchdown pass — a 10-yarder from quarterback Craig Burnett — to help the Cowboys come from behind to defeat Brigham Young 29-27 on Oct. 10, 1987, but also suffered a knee injury in that game that sidelined him for the entire 1988 campaign.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in business, Perkins was involved in the restaurant business, owning his own Chick-Fil-A franchise as well as other ventures. He is a native of Denver.
