Purdue vs. The Pacific-10 Conference
Saturday's game against Arizona State will be the 53rd game against a Pacific-10 Conference opponent for the Boilermakers.
Purdue leads the series 27-25 against the rest of the Pac-10.
Purdue leads the Arizona State series 3-1.
The last time the Boilermakers faced an opponent from the Pac-10 conference was a 79-66 loss to No. 8 Arizona at the John Wooden Classic on Dec. 8, 2001, in Anaheim, Calif.
The Purdue-Arizona State Series
Purdue and Arizona State will be meeting for the fifth time. Here are a few notes on the series.
>Purdue leads the series 3-1.
>The Boilermakers have won the last three games in the series.
>Purdue won the last meeting, a 92-87 overtime victory on Dec. 29, 1978, in the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.
>The two teams have met twice in Tempe, once in West Lafayette and once in Honolulu, Hawaii.
>Each of the four meetings between the schools has been in December.
>The first game was an 85-80 Arizona State victory in Tempe, Ariz.
Purdue-Arizona State Connections
>Purdue head coach Gene Keady and Arizona State head coach Rob Evans were both assistant coaches under Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton.
Keady served under Sutton at Arkansas from 1974 to 1978.
Evans coached under Sutton at Oklahoma State from 1990 to 1992.
>Arizona State assistant coach Dan O'Dowd and Purdue head coach Gene Keady both attended graduate school at Kansas State.
A Look At The Sun Devils
The Sun Devils (5-3) enter Saturday's contest after going 11 days without a game.
Arizona State last played on Dec. 10 and defeated Nevada, 76-63, in Tempe.
The Sun Devils have three players averaging in double figures in scoring, led by freshman Ike Diogu. Diogu is scoring 18.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Saturday's game will be the fourth neutral site contest for the Sun Devils, who played in the Maui Invitational from Nov. 25 to 27.
The Sun Devils have been giving up the three-point shot. Opponents are shooting 31.8 percent and knocking down 5.9 shots per game from behind the arc.
Senior Tommy Smith has been the defensive specialist in the middle for the Sun Devils. Smith is averaging 2.4 blocks per game and has started all eight games at forward.
Keady Member Of The 700 Club
Boilermaker head coach Gene Keady coached his 700th game at Purdue against Belmont on Dec. 18, 2002. Keady has been on the sideline for 700 games at Purdue and has posted a record of 474-226.
He is one of two coaches in the history of the Big Ten Conference to coach his school in 700 games.
The league record is held by Indiana's Bob Knight, who coached in 901 games at Indiana.
Keady is one of five coaches nationally to coach in over 700 games at his current school. He joins the list with Jim Boeheim (Syracuse), Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), James Phelan (Mt. St. Mary's) and Davey Whitney (Alcorn State).
Purdue On Neutral Courts
The Boilermakers are 92-62 all time in neutral-court games.
Purdue is currently 1-1 on neutral courts this season. It defeated Lousiville, 86-84, on Nov. 30, in Indianapolis' Conseco Fieldhouse and lost to Indiana, 66-63, on Dec. 14, in the RCA Dome in Indianapolis.
Under Gene Keady the Boilermakers are 57-43 on nuetral courts.
Last season, the Boilermakers were 1-6 on neutral floors.
It's Beginning To Look
A Lot Like Christmas
Since the 1949-50 season, the Boilermakers are 36-17 in their last game before Dec. 25, and 35-18 in the first game after Christmas Day.
Viva Las Vegas
The Boilermakers have played five games in Las Vegas.
During the 1972-73 season, Purdue played two games in the Las Vegas Classic.
Last season the Boilermakers went 1-2 in the Las Vegas Classic, held in a high school gym.

The Last Time Out
The Boilermakers shot a stellar 52.1 percent from the field in a 78-61 victory over the Belmont Bruins, marking the 700th game of head coach Gene Keady's career at Purdue, while moving their home record to 4-0 on the season.
Purdue started the game with a Chris Booker steal, one of 14 first half turnovers for Belmont which resulted in 15 Boilermaker points. The Old Gold and Black went on a 9-0 run to take a 23-8 lead at the 7:33 mark, their largest of the first half, but owned just a 13-point margin, 35-22, at the break.
After trailing by as many as 20 points, Belmont cut the margin to 14, but that was as close as the team could get. A bucket by Ivan Kartelo, in his first game back from an elbow injury, put Purdue up by 24 at 60-36.
"I was happy with our defense, but I wasn't happy with the execution of our offense," Keady said. "In the first half, we were down on rebounds and offense, but we came back in the second and rebounded and played more like a Big Ten team.
Brett Buscher led all scorers with 15 points.
Purdue In December Games

Top 20 Boilermakers
Purdue was ranked 20th in the Dec. 16 RPI Poll. The Boilermakers were ranked No. 17 in the Sagarin Rating.
Through their first six games, the Boilermakers have the ninth most difficult schedule in the country, according to the RPI Poll.
The Lowe Down On Kenneth
Junior Kenneth Lowe is back in a big way for the Boilermakers.
Lowe sat out last season after having his right shoulder operated on in the summer of 2001 to repair an old high school injury.
As a sophomore, Lowe appeared in all 32 games for the Boilermakers and started 31 of them. He led the team in free throws made (135) and percentage (.865) and averaged 11.3 points per game.
Lowe scored in double figures in 21 of 32 games and was second on the team in steals with 33.
Lowe is the Boilermakers' best defender and has a knack for getting to the free throw line.
In seven games this season, Lowe has averaged 11.9 points per game and pulled down 3.7 rebounds, while guarding the opposing team's primary scorer.
He has connected on 28 of 31 free throw attempts and currently ranks third on Purdue's career free throw percentage list.
He has scored in double figures in five of seven games this season for the Boilermakers and needs 22 more points to have 500 in his career at Purdue.
Lowe leads the team in minutes per game, averaging 26.4 minutes per outing.
For his performances against Middle Tennessee and San Diego, he was named to the Boilermaker Invitational all-tournament team.
Willie Deane, The Scoring Machine
Senior Willie Deane, the Big Ten's leading scorer last season, is averaging 16.0 points per game this season.
One of three team captains, Deane has scored 896 career points as a Boilermaker and is in 42nd place on the all-time scoring list.
He is 104 points away from becoming Purdue's 39th all-time 1,000-point scorer.
Deane has been recognized for his successful junior season by garnering several preseason awards. He was named to the Wooden Award Preseason Top-50 Watch List and the Senior Class Award Watch List, both honoring the nation's top player.
For his performances against Middle Tennessee and San Diego, he was named the Boilermaker Invitational MVP.
In addition, Deane was named preseason first team All-Big Ten by Street & Smith and Basketball News.
Deane has posted double figures in 51 games in his career and has 14 games with more than 20 points. His most recent 20-point performance was a 21-point showing against Indiana on Dec. 14.
This season, Deane has scored in double figures in all seven games and has scored over 20 points in four of his last five outings.
Deane is ranked sixth in scoring in the Big Ten and 11th in free throw percentage.
Named second team All-Big Ten as a junior, Deane led the Boilermakers in steals (44) and ranked second in assists (98).
A lethal shooter, Deane connected on a team-high 63 three-point shots and shot a team-high 38 percent from behind the arc.
As a junior, Deane was the first Boilermaker to score 500 points in a season since Jaraan Cornell accomplished the feat in the 1998-99 season.
Deane transferred from Boston College after his freshman season. After playing his sophomore season and after Purdue lost a scholarship due to NCAA probation, Deane paid his own way his junior season.
Balanced Scoring Attack
The Boilermakers have had seven different players score in double figures this season. Against Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 22, five Boilermakers posted double figures in scoring. On Nov. 30, against Louisville, six players had over 10 points.
The last time Purdue had six players score more than 10 points in a game was in an 84-75 win over No. 9 Illinois on Jan. 9, 2002.
On Dec. 7, against San Diego, five individuals scored over 10 points and four more scored at least four points.
Currently five Boilermakers are averaging more than nine points per game, led by senior Willie Deane's 16.0 points per outing.
Junior Kenneth Lowe (11.9), junior Brett Buscher (10.1), senior Darmetreis Kilgore (9.8) and Chris Booker (9.4) each average over nine points per outing.
From Downtown ... Yes!
The Boilermakers have been deadly from behind the three-point line this season.
Through seven games, Purdue has connected on 39.4 percent of its three-point shots.
Purdue ranks third in the Big Ten in three-point field goal percentage and is averaging 5.8 baskets per game from behind the arc.
Against San Diego, the Boilermakers connected on 14 of 25 shots from downtown for a three-point shooting percentage of 56.0. The 14 three-point field goals set a Mackey Arena record previously held by the 1996-97 team, which connected on 13 attempts on Nov. 24, 1996, against Idaho.
'Spurtability'
As CBS' Clark Kellogg says, spurtability is the ability of teams to go on scoring spurts.
Through seven games this season, the Boilermakers have done their share of it.

Fresh-Baked Turnovers
The Boilermakers have forced 17.0 turnovers per game through seven games this season.
Purdue has forced more than 20 turnovers in two of its last four games.
In the Boilermaker Invitational, Middle Tennessee committed 21 miscues, while San Diego committed 23 turnovers.
In the two victories in the Boilermaker Invitational, Purdue scored 57 points off turnovers.
The Boilermakers rank second in the Big Ten in turnover margin with a mark of +4.33.
A Teague Of His Own
Freshman guard David Teague has played more like an upperclassman through the first seven games of his career at Purdue.
Teague is averaging 6.3 points per game, and playing 14.9 minutes per outing.
He has made 12 of 26 shots from behind the arc and is 1 for 10 from inside the three-point line.
Teague ranks 10th in the conference in three-point percentage (.440).
Teague has scored in doubles figures twice. In his career debut against Miami (Ohio), he scored 10 points and against San Diego he scored 12 points on 4 of 5 shooting from behind the arc.
Don't Fear The Kiefer
While it's not known whether freshman Matt Kiefer is a Blue Oyster Cult fan, he is making an immediate impact in his first season with the Boilermakers.
Through seven games, Kiefer is averaging 5.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and is third on the team in assists with 12.
Kiefer has averaged 16.3 minutes per game off the bench.
On Dec. 3 at Xavier, Kiefer played his best all-around game with seven points, six rebounds and five assists.
In the game against Indiana, Kiefer was unable to play in the second half when his left knee tightened up.
