On sophomore guard John Hart's foot injury:
"John has done a good job for us and he's battled through it. It was a tough decision (to have the surgery). There was a downside to both decisions, but the biggest upside was to have the surgery right now instead of trying to play through it. I think he made the right decision."

On Tuesday's matchup with Valparaiso:
"Valpo is a very good basketball team with a lot of good scorers. They really stretch you out with their ability to shoot the basketball. They have a very skilled team, and it's going to be a tough matchup. They're having a great year; they've already won two road games in conference play. We have to be ready defensively to try to stop them."

On the prospect of playing at a sold-out ARC:
"We've been in some tough environments, and any time you go on the road and get experience being in an environment like Virginia Tech where you can't hear yourself think, it helps you. It's tough to get a feel for each other when you can't communicate during the game. It really helps when you've already had that experience."

On the play of junior guard Ryne Smith:
"I thought he really gave us a boost off the bench (against Alabama). He really helps us with ball movement, and getting the ball inside. Defensively, you know he's going to go out there and play very hard and get after it. The two charges he took (against Alabama) were key plays for us."

On the play of Purdue's defense in its last two games:
"We're trying our best to keep people out of rhythm and disrupt their offense. We're also being smart and not jumping over the fight. We still have a long way to go. We have to continue to get some of our young big guys some experience. We need contributions from everybody."

On the Boilermakers' play with a four-guard lineup:
"I think we've done a good job with it. Kelsey Barlow really gives us versatility. He went from guarding Alabama's four man to guarding their point guard, and that really helps us. We'll see as time goes on. It's all about matching up on defense. We'll continue to tinker with things and play the guys who are most productive. I'm excited about it."
