WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The No. 17-ranked Purdue men's basketball team faces Arizona State in the 2016 Jimmy V Classic held at Madison Square Garden in New York. Playing the first game of the doubleheader, the Boilermakers and Sun Devils tip at 7 p.m. ET, and will be followed by Duke and Florida.

Purdue will be making its first appearance in the Mecca of college basketball, Madison Square Garden, since the 2012 NIT Season Tipoff and will be looking for its first win in the facility since a 2008 NIT Season Tipoff victory against Boston College. Purdue has lost three straight games in MSG, but owns a 12-9 record all-time in the facility. The 2018 Big Ten Tournament will be held at Madison Square Garden.

Purdue, which touts one of the nation's best frontcourts, has been dominant from the perimeter as of late, ranking fifth nationally in 3-point percentage (.433) and 15th in 3-pointers made per game (10.5). Over the last five games, the percentages are even better. Purdue is 62-of-127 (.488) from deep, led by Dakota Mathias (15-of-25; .600). The Boilermakers have posted two of their top four single-game 3-pointers made total in school history over the last four games.

Continuing to lead Purdue is sophomore Caleb Swanigan at 17.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, being just 1-of-2 players nationally to average those numbers (Memphis' Dedric Lawson).

Arizona State brings a formidable offensive attack to the Big Apple, averaging 85.0 points per game. In its last game against UNLV, the Sun Devils made a school-record 18 3-pointers, meaning the two teams enter the Jimmy V Classic having made 33 combined trifectas in their last two games. Ten different players average at least 10.0 points per game entering Tuesday's tilt.

Purdue will return home next Saturday, Dec. 10, for its final pre-finals game of 2016, a noon tip against Cleveland State.
