Boilermakers Make Fifth Appearance In ACC/Big Ten Challenge
Purdue will play its second-straight game away from Mackey Arena and in its fifth ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7:30 p.m. EST in Tallahassee, Fla., against Florida State.
The Boilermakers dropped their first game of the season on Saturday, a 74-55 decision to Xavier in the John Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis.
Florida State fell for the first time in 2005-06, a 74-66 loss to arch rival Florida in Gainesville on Saturday.
The Boilermakers and Seminoles have met only once previously. Purdue is 0-1 against the Seminoles and owns a 1-3 record in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

A Purdue Win Would ...
-Give the Boilermakers their first 3-1 start since the 2002-03 season, when they won five of their first six games.
-Give Purdue its third 3-1 start in the last 10 seasons, and its ninth 3-1 start in the last 20 seasons.
-Be the Boilermakers' first win over Florida State and improve their record to 15-22 against the Atlantic Coast Conference.
-Improve Matt Painter's career coaching record to 28-6 overall and 3-1 at Purdue.

Purdue-Xavier Recap
Brian Thornton scored 23 points and Stanley Burrell added 16 as Xavier beat Purdue 74-55 Saturday in the John Wooden Tradition at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Xavier led by as many as 10 points early, but Purdue gained a 32-31 halftime edge after making 7 of 15 three-pointers. Chris Lutz scored 14 of his team-high 15 points in the first half, including three, 3-pointers.
Matt Painter, who had won his first two games as Purdue coach, regarded Xavier as one of the top 30 teams in the nation entering the game. He was eyeing his first upset as the Boilermakers' coach before the Musketeers made a second-half run to put the game away.
With Purdue within four points, 47-43, with 10:54 left in the game, Xavier's Dedrick Finn made a 3-pointer while being fouled and then completed the four-point play to put the Musketeers up 51-43 lead. Xavier outscored Purdue 23-12 the rest of the way.
Burrell, an Indianapolis native, made 4 of 6 three-pointers, and the Musketeers shot 50 percent from the field while holding the Boilermakers to 35 percent shooting.
Purdue forward Carl Landry, who ranked fifth nationally with 28.5 points per game, was held to five points on 2-of-9 shooting and was plagued by foul trouble throughout. Matt Kiefer scored 12 points for Purdue before fouling out.

Carl Landry - Flying Under The Radar
Senior Carl Landry was unquestionably the Boilermakers' most productive player in 2004-05. After suffering an ACL tear on Feb. 26, Landry is back near 100 percent. One of the nation's most underrated players, Landry is looking for a breakout senior season. Below are some stats on Landry from the first three games.

-Averaging 20.7 points and 5.0 rebounds.
-Scored a career-high 35 points on only 13 field goal attempts against South Alabama on Nov. 22.
-Has scored in double figures in 24 of 28 career games at Purdue.

Nate "The Mayor" Minnoy
Freshman Nate "The Mayor" Minnoy has made quite an impact for the Boilermakers.
Below are some notes on his performances and on his career debut.

-Scored a game-high 25 points against Wofford in the season opener.
-Averaging 15.0 points, five rebounds and 3.0 assists.
-Is second on the team in scoring, tied for first in rebounding and first in assists.
-Connected on four of 10 shots from behind the arc and 19 of 33 from the field.
-Became the fifth player in Purdue history to have at least 25 points in his career debut with the Boilermakers.
-Became the first true freshman since Russell Cross to score 25 points in his career opener. Cross scored 25 against Colorado State on Nov. 29, 1980, Gene Keady's first game at Purdue.

Freshmen Starting And Producing
Purdue's freshmen have not only been playing significant minutes, but also producing big numbers.
After three games, Marcus Green, Chris Lutz, Nate Minnoy and Korey Spates have combined for 122 points.

A Frosh Start
Purdue started three true freshmen in its lineup for the season opener against Wofford on Nov. 19.
How rare has that been in Purdue basketball history? Consider the following:

-The last time three true freshmen started any game was against Indiana on Jan. 18, 1997. The Boilermakers defeated the Hoosiers 70-53 when the trio of Mike Robinson, Brian Cardinal and Jaraan Cornell were in the starting five.

-The 2005-06 season opener against Wofford on Nov. 19 was the first time three freshmen started a season opener in the 108 years of Purdue basketball. Freshmen became eligible during the 1972-73 season.

Spates, Sensational
Freshman point guard Korey Spates has been very solid for the Boilermakers, considering he did not play in either exhibition game. Below are some notes on Spates' start to the 2005-06 season.

-Scored 16 points off the bench, including six of Purdue's final eight points in the opener against Wofford.

-Is averaging 11.3 points per game in over 29 minutes per outing.
-Third on the team in scoring and second in assists.
-Started first career game on Saturday against Xavier.

Lutz Breaks Out
Purdue head coach Matt Painter tabbed freshman guard Chris Lutz as the team's best shooter during the preseason. On Saturday, he showed why he was worthy of that title.
Lutz scored a team-high 15 points against Xavier. He was three of four from behind the arc and four of six from the field.

Efficient Offense
In two of three games this season, the Boilermakers have shot more than 50 percent from the field.
Against Wofford, they shot 58.5 percent and were 58.0 percent from the field against South Alabama.
During the 2004-05 season, Purdue shot more than 50 percent in just five outings.

To The Frontline
The Boilermakers have a very deep frontline. Seniors Carl Landry, Matt Kiefer and Gary Ware give Purdue experience and size. Freshman Nate Minnoy will also see time at the power forward position. Connecticut transfer Marcus White will join the group in December, giving the Boilermakers one of the deepest frontlines in the country. Below are some statistics on Purdue's frontline.

-The Boilermakers outrebounded opponents 102-83.
-Purdue registered 13 blocks to their opponents' seven.
-Landry, Ware, Minnoy and Kiefer combined for 137 points and 50 rebounds.

Painter Wins Purdue Debut
Purdue head coach Matt Painter won his Purdue debut with an 82-75 win over Wofford on Nov. 19.
Painter is the fourth-straight Purdue coach to win his opener with the Boilermakers.
Painter won his career debut with a 67-63 win at Wyoming in his first season at Southern Illinois.
