Pair of Former Boilermakers to be Enshrined in New Castle

NEW CASTLE, Ind. - Former Purdue men's basketball players Phil Dawkins and Dan Palombizio have been elected to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and will be enshrined in March as part of the 2013 Induction Class.

Dawkins captained East Chicago Washington High School to its 1960 state championship, leading the Senators in scoring during their tournament run. He scored the deciding points in Washington's one-point victory over Fort Wayne Central in the state semis and netted a team-high 21 points in the championship win over Muncie Central.

Dawkins played for the Boilermakers from 1962-64, averaging 6.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per game in 63-career contests.

A 1981 Michigan City Rogers High School graduate, Palombizio won Mr. Basketball Honors as a senior and scored 2,092 points to finish his career as the ninth-leading high school scorer in state history. He was also just the second player in Indiana history to earn first-team all-state accolades three times.

Palombizio played at Purdue from 1982-83, averaging 4.6 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He appeared in 59 games for the Boilermakers, starting 29 times.

The Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame's 52nd-annual Mens' Awards Banquet will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013. The day's events will include a reception at the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame museum in the afternoon and a banquet that evening at the Primo Banquet Hall in Indianapolis.
