WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue men's basketball team will host Western Michigan on Nov. 23 in a bonus game as part of the 2011 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, head coach Matt Painter announced on Friday.
The contest is set for 7 p.m. ET, and will be streamed live via BTN.com.
NCAA legislation permits teams to play a maximum of four games as part of exempt multi-team events, such as the Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The Boilermakers are thus permitted to play a team in the originally contracted field - Western Michigan, in this case - within 14 days of the start of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
The game has been approved by ESPN, the promoter of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, as part of the contractual arrangement, and will be considered part of the event in historical records.
The Boilermakers have faced Western Michigan eight times in their basketball history, and hold a 7-1 edge in a series that has been dormant since 1996.
Tickets for the Puerto Rico Tip-Off game against Western Michigan are currently on sale at the Purdue Athletic Ticket Office. Lower arena seats are available for $25 apiece, while upper arena tickets are priced at $15. Purdue students can purchase tickets for the WMU game at a cost of $12.
Tickets for the Western Michigan contest are not part of Purdue's 2011-12 season ticket package. Purdue students and John Purdue Club members will have the first opportunity to purchase tickets for the game. The general public will be able to buy tickets beginning Monday, Oct. 17.
Tickets may be purchased online at purduesports.com, by calling (800) 49-SPORT or in person at the Purdue Athletic Ticket Office. Located on the concourse level on the east side of Mackey Arena, the Purdue Athletic Ticket Office is open for business from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. ET, Monday-Friday (except holidays).
