TAIPEI - Purdue men’s basketball, representing the USA National Team at the 2017 World University Games (WUG), helped officially open the 2017 Summer Universaide by marching in the opening ceremonies at a raucous Taipei Stadium.

The team was part of a group of several hundred USA representatives to march in the opening ceremonies. The USA men's basketball contingent waited inside Taipei Arena, where the majority of its games will be contested, spending much of the night mingling and trading pins with the 10,000 athletes in attendance representing almost 150 countries.

With an afternoon game the following day, the USA Team participated in the Parade of Nations to perhaps the second-loudest cheers of the evening and then returned to the Athlete Village to rest up for its Sunday afternoon contest against Argentina.

USA will open pool-play against Argentina on Sunday, Aug. 20, beginning at 5:30 a.m. ET / 5:30 p.m. local time. The game will be streamed online and available on the FISU TV app.
