Purdue Dominates Second Half in Win

BARCELONA, Spain -- The Purdue men's basketball team dominated the second half to run its Spanish trip record to 3-0 with a 96-72 win over the Barcelona All Stars on Sunday night.

Purdue outscored BAS 31-8 in the third quarter to break open a close game and cruise to its third victory in as many games.

The Boilermakers could not quite pull away in the first half as the Barcelona All-Stars kept it close with timely 3-point shooting aggressive defense. The Boilermakers held a 15-14 lead late in the first quarter before closing the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 22-14 advantage after 10 minutes of play.

Purdue would still lead 38-31 late in the first half before the All Stars eventually tied the game at 42 on a 3-pointer by Argues. Carsen Edwards would give the Boilermakers the halftime lead at 44-42 with a late tip-in.

The third quarter then belonged to the Boilermakers, outscoring the Barcelona All Stars 31-8 to take a 75-50 lead into the final quarter. Purdue clamped down on defense and gave the All Stars nothing to work with as the Boilermakers pulled away.

Purdue shot 33-of-66 (.500) from the field, 8-of-22 (.364) from 3-point range and 22-of-26 (.846) from the free throw line in the victory. Purdue outrebounded the All Stars 53-31 and after having eight turnovers in the first quarter, had just 10 over the final three quarters.

Carsen Edwards led Purdue with 25 points on 8-of-9 shooting to go with three rebounds and three assists in just 21 minutes. Caleb Swanigan recorded his second double-double of the Spanish trip with 20 points, 11 rebounds and four assists despite not playing in the fourth quarter. Isaac Haas had 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting to go along with six rebounds.

Purdue will close out its four-game swing with a contest Monday against the European Basketball Academy beginning at 2 p.m. ET.
