WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Every few days, will introduce a new member of the Purdue men's basketball team. The third feature is about Dakota Mathias, a 6-4, 197-pound freshman from Elida, Ohio.

As a high school senior, Mathias was the Ohio Division II co-Player of the Year and a first-team All-State selection after averaging 27.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game at Elida High School. His squad won three Western Buckeye League titles and Mathias would finish his career as the school's all-time leading scorer (1,906 points), passing former teammate and Akron's Reggie McAdams. He would share Player of the Year honors with highly-regarded Luke Kennard, who is considered one of the top players in the country.

Mathias also excelled off the court, being a member of the National Honor Society and was an Ohio Basketball Coaches Association Silver Scholar-Athlete. In addition to being an outstanding shooter, Mathias has a high basketball IQ and is a tremendous passer. The self-proclaimed gym rat has a terrific all-around game.
