CAIRO, Egypt – Purdue sophomore Carsen Edwards and his USA Basketball teammates will open play Saturday at the FIBA U19 World Cup held in Cairo, Egypt.

Team USA will take on Iran in its first of three Group D games, tipping off Saturday at 11:30 a.m. ET, in Egypt. All games will be streamed online HERE as well as on FIBA’s YouTube Channel.

On Sunday, June 2, Team USA will take on Angola, beginning at 12:15 a.m. ET, and the Americans will close out group play on Independence Day, facing Italy at 10 a.m. ET.

Following the preliminary round, all 16 teams will be seeded according to group-play results and will advance to the July 5 round of 16. Winners will advance to the July 7 medal quarterfinals, while the remaining teams will continue playing out for classification. The medal semifinals will be held July 8, and the gold- and bronze-medal games are slated for July 9.

Team USA, ranked No. 1 overall in the world, will be looking for its third straight title at the FIBA World Cup after capturing gold at the 2013 and 2015 tournaments. Former Purdue All-American Caleb Swanigan helped Team USA to the 2015 championship.

In two exhibition games, Edwards averaged 6.5 points per game in victories over Lithuania and France.

Edwards averaged 10.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game, ranking sixth on Purdue's freshmen all-time scoring list with 360 points. He is 1-of-3 freshmen in Purdue history to score at least 360 points, dish out 60 assists and grab 30 steals. He also ranked fourth on the Purdue freshman all-time 3-pointers made list with 49. He scored 10 or more points 18 times as a freshman, helping Purdue to a 16-2 record during those contests.
