WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Fourth-seeded Purdue began its preparations for top-seeded Kansas on Monday with a two-hour shooting practice, film study and walk-through as Purdue looks to defeat a No. 1 seed for the first time in school history.


The Boilermakers and Jayhawks will square off Thursday in Kansas City, tipping at 9:39 p.m. ET / 8:39 p.m. CT, with a berth in the Elite Eight on the line. The winner will face the winner of No. 3-seed Oregon and No. 7-seed Michigan in Saturday's Midwest Regional Final.

Purdue will leave for Kansas City after tomorrow's practice and will hold an open practice at the Sprint Center on Wednesday, beginning at 2 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. CT. Fans and media are invited to attend.

PREVIEWING KANSAS: Purdue met with the media Monday to preview the Jayhawks. Kansas enters the contest with a 30-4 overall mark and winners of its 13th straight Big 12 regular-season title. Guard Frank Mason (20.8 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 5.2 apg) is one of the leaders, along with Purdue's Caleb Swanigan, for National Player of the Year accolades.

TODAY'S NCAA NUGGETS
1) The 57 combined wins between Purdue (27) and Kansas (30) are the third most among the eight Sweet 16 games. First are the 62 wins between Gonzaga (34) and West Virginia (28) and the 62 between UCLA (31) and Kentucky (31).
2) This will be the sixth meeting between Purdue and Kansas all-time. Each of the last four meetings (including this one) have come in the NCAA Tournament. In the last three meetings (including Thursday), Kansas has been ranked Nos. 1, 6 and 3, respectively.
3) Vincent Edwards and Caleb Swanigan both had at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists in the win over Iowa State. It marks the first time since UNLV's Stacy Augmon and Larry Johnson reached those marks in a tournament game during a 131-101 win over Loyola Marymount in 1990.
