WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- After learning its NCAA destination on Sunday, the No. 2-seeded Purdue men's basketball team began its preparations for Friday's first-round contest against Cal State Fullerton in Detroit.

The Boilermakers and 15th-seeded Titans will battle at 12:40 p.m. ET, on truTV from Little Caesars Arena. It will be the first game of Friday's first session and the second to tip nationally on the tournament's second day. The other matchup in the bottom of the East bracket features Arkansas vs. Butler.

The Boilermakers watched film and went through about a 40-minute walkthrough Monday afternoon. Purdue will start to really ramp up preparations Tuesday and Wednesday before leaving via bus for Detroit on Wednesday afternoon.

1) Purdue is making its 10th NCAA appearance in the last 12 years. Only eight teams nationally have more during that span (Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, Michigan State -- 12; North Carolina, Villanova, Wisconsin, Xavier -- 11).
2) Purdue is one of eight teams to have received a top-five seed in each of the last three seasons (Kansas, Villanova, North Carolina, Virginia, Duke, Kentucky, West Virginia).
3) Purdue's roster has played a combined 660 minutes in the NCAA Tournament, accounting for 249 points. Car State Fullerton's roster has combined for zero minutes and zero points in NCAA Tournament play.

Matt Painter finished third in the Coaches Charity Challenge, earning $15,000 for the Smith Family BreaK Thru Fund. All told, since the inception of the event eight years ago, Painter has helped raise almost $250,000 for the Smith Family BReaK Thru Fund.
