PARK RIDGE, Ill. - Purdue freshman Rapheal Davis was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday, becoming the second Boilermaker this season to earn the award.

The honor is the first of Davis' career and the second for the Boilers this season, as center A.J. Hammons earned the recognition on Feb. 4.

The Fort Wayne, Ind., native was one of Purdue's most important players last week in a home split with No. 7/8 Michigan and Minnesota, averaging 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He shot 64.7 percent from the floor and 83.3 percent from the line, knocking down 10-of-12 free throws in the two games. He also added two blocks and two steals on the week.

Davis was 5-of-9 from the field and 4-of-5 from the stripe against Michigan to account for 15 points in Purdue's 80-75 loss. He was also a factor on the glass against the Wolverines, ripping down a career-high nine rebounds.

He followed up his mid-week performance with a weekend encore that saw him tie for the team lead with 18 points in the win over Minnesota. He was 6-of-8 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free throw line in the 16-point win over the Golden Gophers, while also dealing out a career-high four assists.

The Boilermakers have claimed the No. 7 seed at this week's Big Ten Tournament in Chicago, and will square off with 10th-seeded Nebraska at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday. ESPN2 will televise the game with Mike Tirico and Dan Dakich on the call, while Larry Clisby and Rob Blackman will call the action on radio on the Purdue Sports Network.

The Big Ten Tournament sold out in advance for the first time in event history, but standing room only tickets for each session are now on sale via ticketmaster.com and unitedcenter.com.
