WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
On Tuesday, Feb. 17, the 19th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers will have a new look when they take the court in Mackey Arena for their Big Ten Conference matchup against 6th-ranked Michigan State.
The Boilermakers will wear a newly designed Nike uniform in their game against the Spartans. Those uniforms were unveiled to the media on Monday afternoon in Mackey Arena.
Purdue's new uniforms incorporate several technological details engineered to help the athletes perform at their highest level. The elite-fit system uses a Dri-Fit Sphere material in the front portion of the uniform, and a lightweight mesh panel in the back portion of the uniform to help regulate the player's body temperature as they alternate from the court to the bench.
The patterning of the jersey features roughly a 25% reduction in weight, eliminating excess materials in the body of the jersey, allowing the player to move more efficiently through traffic on the court. The Purdue design features an iconic neck-line, combined with design lines inspired by the history of the Boilermaker Train. Purdue will wear three colors, a traditional white/black/gold uniform, an alternate gold uniform, and a unique, bold black "road warrior" type uniform that they will wear when they do battle on the road. The gold uniform will not be introduced until the 2009-2010 season.
Two jerseys, a No.4 white jersey and No.33 black jersey, will be available at retail on Tuesday at Follett's, Purdue Pride, University Bookstore, University Spirit, and the Purdue Shop. The jersey is being exclusively launched at on campus retailers.
