Feb. 6, 2018

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue sophomore Carsen Edwards was named a finalist for the Jerry West Award, given to the nation’s best shooting guard, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced.

Edwards, a 6-foot, 1-inch guard from Atascocita, Texas, was earlier named a top-20 finalist for the Wooden Award, given to the nation’s top player. Edwards was not on the preseason top-20 list for the West Award.

The list will be cut down to a final five finalist in early / mid-March.

Edwards is the lone Big Ten player named to the list.

Edwards leads the team in scoring at 16.6 points per game while also grabbing 3.7 rebounds and dishing out 3.0 assists per game. He is shooting 47.1 percent from the field, 39.6 percent from 3-point range and 81.2 percent from the free throw line. He has scored in double-figures in eight straight games and when he scores 10 or more points in a game during his career, the Boilermakers are 35-4. He needs 26 points to surpass 800 for his career.

Edwards and his teammates will host No. 14-ranked Ohio State on Wednesday in Mackey Arena at 8:30 p.m. ET, on the Big Ten Network. The game is sold out.
