Wooden Award Top 20 List

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue senior Vincent Edwards and sophomore Carsen Edwards were named to the late-season Wooden Award Top 20 watch list announced last night by the Los Angeles Athletic Club. Given annually to the nation’s top player, the Wooden Award is considered one of the sport’s biggest honors.

Vincent Edwards, a 6-foot, 8-inch forward from Middletown, Ohio, was on the initial top-50 list at the start of the season, fell off the midseason list, but returned to the late-season top-20 list.

Carsen Edwards, a 6-foot, 1-inch guard from Atascocita, Texas, is on the Wooden Award watch list for the first time.

The list will be cut down to a final 15 national ballot in early March.

Purdue, Arizona and Villanova are the only schools with two players on the top-20 list.

Carsen leads the team in scoring at 16.6 points per game while also grabbing 3.7 rebounds and dishing out 3.0 assists per game. He is shooting 47.1 percent from the field, 39.6 percent from 3-point range and 81.2 percent from the free throw line. He has scored in double-figures in eight straight games and when he scores 10 or more points in a game during his career, the Boilermakers are 35-4. He needs 26 points to surpass 800 for his career.

Vincent, meanwhile, ranks second on the team in scoring (15.5) and assists (3.1) while leading the squad in rebounding (7.8). He is shooting 49.3 percent from the field, 41.5 percent from 3-point range and 84.0 percent from the free throw line. In league games only, he is averaging 16.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. In the win over Rutgers, he became just the second Big Ten player in the last 25 years with 1,500 career points, 700 career rebounds, 350 assists and 150 made 3-pointers.

The Edwards’ duo and teammates will host No. 14-ranked Ohio State on Wednesday in Mackey Arena at 8:30 p.m. ET, on the Big Ten Network. The game is sold out.
