Boilermakers Coast Past UAB
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Brad Miller had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Chad Austin also scored 19 points, leading fifth-ranked Purdue to a 92-64 rout of UAB in the opening round of the Great Alaska Shootout in Anchorage.
Miller helped the Boilermakers (4-0) gain a 45-32 advantage in rebounding. Purdue will play the winner of Friday's game between Massachusetts and Southwestern Louisiana in the semifinals.
Austin scored 11 points in the first half, including a three-pointer at the buzzer, as the Boilermakers forged a 42-21 halftime lead. Sophomores Jaraan Cornell and Gary McQuay each finished with 13 points for Purdue, who won this tournament in 1993 and were meeting UAB for the first time.
Fred Williams and freshman Predrag Savovic scored 13 points apiece for the Blazers (2-2), who will play the UMass-Southwestern Louisiana loser in the consolation bracket.
Both of UAB's losses have come against nationally ranked Big Ten foes. The Blazers were beaten at home by Indiana on November 19th, 80-64.
