WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Behind a 14-point performance from junior forward Robbie Hummel and the Boilermakers worked their way to a double-figure rebounding advantage as the No. 7/7 Purdue men's basketball team defeated Kentucky Wesleyan, 74-52, on Monday night in its exhibition finale.

The Boilermakers used an 18-0 run late in the first half to open up a double-digit margin that they wouldn't relinquish, leading by as many as 27 points on the night. Purdue also out-rebounded KWC by a count of 40-30 on the strength of a game-high eight boards from Hummel.

Hummel, who also added three assists and two steals in just 21 minutes of work, was 5-of-9 from the floor, and perfect on two attempts from beyond the arc.

Freshman forward Patrick Bade netted 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting for the Boilermakers, who shot 45.6 percent from the field as a team in the win. Sophomore guard Ryne Smith chipped in with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the floor, while junior forward/center JaJuan Johnson tallied eight and freshman guard D.J. Byrd had seven.

Junior guard E'Twaun led all players with eight assists on Monday night, while Johnson had a game-high three blocks and both Byrd and senior guard Chris Kramer joined Hummel with two steals.

The Boilermakers will open the regular season on Friday night when they welcome Cal State Northridge to Mackey Arena for the 112th season opener in program history. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
