WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The 11th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers claimed its 16th-consecutive exhibition victory on Saturday evening, defeating the Northern State Wolves 81-61.

JaJuan Johnson led the Boilermakers with a double-double, scoring 22 points and pulling down 14 boards. Johnson also led the Boilermaker defensive effort with seven blocked shots.

Joining Johnson in double-figure scoring were Robbie Hummel with 12 points and E'Twaun Moore with 11.

The Boilermakers started cold from the floor, hitting just one of their initial 10 attempts at the basket including 0-of-6 from beyond three-point range.

With the score 12-8 in Northern State's favor, Robbie Hummel hit a three pointer with 10:43 on the first-half clock. The triple ignited the Boilermakers to a 14-2 run over the next 4:04, giving the Old Gold and Black a 22-14 lead.

The tightly-fought first half ended with a 6-0 run for Purdue, giving the Boilermakers an intermission-lead of 35-24.

The Purdue defense, which forced 21 turnovers in the game, turned up the heat in the second half, holding the Wolves without a field goal for the first 5:58 of the second stanza.

A 17-3 run to open the second half for Purdue extended the Boilermaker lead to 52-27 en route to the final 20-point margin of victory.

The Boilermakers open the 2008-09 regular season on Firday, Nov. 14, at 9 p.m. against Detroit Mercy in Mackey Arena.
