WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -

The Purdue men's basketball team overcame the absence of three players and a lackluster first half to defeat Pfeiffer, 94-80, in its first exhibition win of the 2005-06 season.

Pfeiffer shot over 54 percent in the first half and led by 13 at the break. In the second half, Purdue turned up the defense, holding the Falcons to 26 points and just over 23 percent shooting from the field.

"It was just a matter of playing with more effort in the second half," said head coach Matt Painter. "I told them at halftime to just play hard and things would start to improve."

Purdue was led by senior Carl Landry, who played in his first game since suffering a torn ACL in February. Landry posted a double-double, leading all scorers with 33 points and 10 rebounds. He also recorded a game-high four blocked shots.

The Boilermakers' second-half spark was ignited by a trio of freshmen, who each started the contest.

Marcus Green, Chris Lutz and Nate Minnoy each scored in double figures. Green poured in 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Lutz had 13 points, five assists and five rebounds. Minnoy posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

"I thought our new guys brought some energy, once they calmed down out there," said Painter. "They are an athletic bunch, and it was good to see them use their skills in the open floor."

Purdue dished out 25 assists on the day, led by senior Bryant Dillon's seven. The Boilermakers also held a 52-41 advantage on the glass. The Boilermakers ended the game shooting over 51 percent from the field.

Matt Kiefer, David Teague and Korey Spates were suspended from today's game by Painter.

Purdue will host it's second and final exhibition game on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. against Southern-Illinois Edwardsville in Mackey Arena.
