Northwestern Can't Handle Purdue in 80-45 Boilermaker Victory

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP)- Brad Miller scored 20 points to lead No. 12 Purdue over Northwestern 80-45 Saturday night.

Purdue (17-4, 5-2 Big Ten) opened the second half with an 8-0 run to build a 44-24 lead. The Boilermakers' pressure defense sparked the spurt and forced 26 Northwestern turnovers for the game.

Chad Austin finished with 17 points, Jaraan Cornell had 14 and Brian Cardinal added 13 for Purdue.

The Wildcats (7-9, 1-6) were led by Sean Wink with 12 points. Evan Eschmeyer and Julian Bonner each finished with 10 points.

Purdue outscored the Wildcats 12-6 in the final seven minutes of the first half to take a 36-24 lead.

Northwestern, which also scored only 45 points against Penn State on Thursday, managed just six points in the first six minutes of the second half.

The Boilermakers held a 19-10 advantage from the free throw line and committed only seven turnovers.
