Citizen Pain at It Again
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - This will come as no great surprise to Purdue fans, but sophomore forward Brian Cardinal of the Boilermaker men's basketball team knows no pain.
After taking an elbow in his nose last month during practice in Sydney, Australia, where his USA Basketball 22-and-under team was preparing for the World Championships, Cardinal paid a visit to the emergency room for stitches. In keeping with his nickname, "Citizen Pain," the Tolono, Ill. product declined the offer of any pain killer while the doctor stitched his nose.
Asked later if it hurt, Cardinal flashed a big smile, threw his fist skyward, exclaimed, "No! It felt great!" and grinned again...just as if he had dove for a loose ball, slid 10 feet across the floor and crashed into a concrete wall!
That's Citizen Pain.
