Three Boilermakers Make USA Basketball Cut
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Following three days of trials which featured 61 of the top U.S. collegians, USA Basketball announced today a total of 28 finalists for the 1997 USA Men's 22 and Under World Championship and the USA World University Games teams. The selections were made by the USA Basketball Men's Collegiate Committee.
Sixteen finalists, including three Purdue University players, were named for the USA Basketball Men's 22 and Under World Championship Team. Chad Austin, Brian Cardinal and Brad Miller will represent the Boilermakers.
Chad Austin - "It's an exciting feeling to be picked with all the other great players. I'm just going to try and come and work hard, play team ball and just do what the coach says."
Brian Cardinal - "It's a great honor and I look forward to trying to make the 12-man squad. It's going to be hard, but I look forward to the challenge. I am hoping that I can make the final team and have a chance to go to Australia. I know all three Purdue players are pretty hard workers and I think that Brad (Miller), Chad (Austin) and I will go all go out there and do what we can to help the squad."
Brad Miller - "This was my third year out here so this time making the cut, I feel it is a great honor to be a finalist. This week, I just got back from 13 days in Europe playing with the Purdue team and that kind of helped put me in a playing mood. Luckily, I just came out here and played well."
