WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- Purdue University has received an extension of its deadline from the NCAA for finalizing its response to allegations against the men's basketball program.

"Our legal counsel is doing everything in his power to schedule appointments with those individuals whose statements to the NCAA will have a bearing on Purdue's position. Unfortunately, this process is taking much more time than expected," says Athletic Director Morgan Burke.

"We simply cannot provide a thorough response to the NCAA until we secure the opportunity to meet with these individuals. We will continue to seek their voluntary cooperation which is all we can do. It is frustrating to have this matter linger but at the same time conflicting and inconsistent statements must be sorted out."

The request for an extension has been reviewed and the NCAA has extended the deadline until August 7.
