Black And Gold Series Updates

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Gold Team evened the annual Black and Gold series at one win each with a 7-1 victory over Team Black in Game 2 of the five-game set, but the Black Squad pulled back into the series lead after pounding out 22 hits and scoring 17 runs over the final four innings in a 21-6 win in Game 3.

Drew Madia opened the scoring for the Gold Team in Game 2, driving in a run on a two-out single in the home half of the first. The squad followed up in the second with six consecutive hits to lead off the frame, including a two-run triple by Tyler Spillner and a RBI double by Madia.

Nick Overmyer led off the third with a solo home run to left and Jake Hansen capped off the scoring for Team Gold when he came around on a RBI-ground out after doubling earlier in the third.

Overmyer and Hansen each finished the game with three hits and Jonathan Lilly, Ryan Bridges, Madia and Payton Bieker all paired hits in the win.

Conner Sestak picked up the win on the mound, allowing just one run on four hits over 4 1/3 innings. The southpaw struck out three and walked two. Mike Sudbury struck three in 4 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Sestak.

Team Black's Blake Mascarello was charged with the loss after allowing all runs on 10 hits in two-plus innings of work. The Black squad's relief corps of Aaron Doughty, Emilio Domondon, Pete Reding and Drew Wurdack stepped up and shut out the Gold Team over the final six frames.



The Gold Squad rallied for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning of Game 3, but the Black Squad's bats exploded to quash any chance of Gold taking its first lead in the series.

Offensive standouts for Team Black in Game 3 included a four-hit performances by Steve Talbott, including a triple, a double and four runs scored, and Cameron Perkins, including a home run, a double, four runs scored and three RBIs. Kevin Plawecki (2B, 4 RBI), David Blount (4 R, 2 RBI) and Angelo Cianfrocco (3 RBI) all finished with three hits in the win.

The Gold Team's Jake Hansen had two hits and a pair of RBIs in the loss.

Reliever Robert Ramer picked up the victory on the mound after giving up one run on 2 hits over 2 1/3 innings. Emilio Domondon tossed 1 2/3 scoreless inning in the eighth and ninth.

Gold reliever Ryan Baker was charged with the loss after surrendering the lead in the sixth. He allowed three runs on four hits in one inning of work
