WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Pitching for the Richmond RiverRats in the Prospect League, Purdue junior Sean Collins tossed the first no-hitter in the summer league's history in a 5-0 win over the Slippery Rock Sliders on June 20.
He struck out five and walked four while not surrendering a hit over the full nine innings in his first start since his prep career at Pendleton Heights High School. Boilermaker teammate Kevin Plawecki caught all nine innings of the no-no.
In his first two seasons at Purdue, Collins is 1-0 with two saves, a 5.70 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. In seven career Big Ten Conference games he has yet to surrender an earned run in 13 1/3 innings.
