WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -
Purdue's sophomore first baseman Ryne White was named Big Ten Player of the Week following his performance during the Boilermakers' six-game week last week, the Big Ten Conference office announced on Monday.
White batted at a .563 clip in Purdue's series Iowa, collecting nine hits in 16 at-bats with seven runs scored and nine RBI. His three-run homer against Iowa on Friday helped erase a 4-0 deficit, tying the game en route to a 13-4 victory.
White had a slugging percentage of 1.000 against the Hawkeyes with one double and two home runs, while posting a .632 on-base percentage, and was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
In six total games on the week, White batted .560 (14-for-25) with a .607 on-base percentage and an .880 slugging percentage.
White's nine hits against Iowa give him 43 on the conference season, tying a Purdue record set Daryl Hallada in 1998 and equalled by Mitch Hilligoss in 2005. The Boilermakers have four conference games remaining this season. White has also established the Purdue record for runs scored in a Big Ten season with 28, snapping the former record of 27 by Hilligoss last season.
The Purdue sophomore raised his Big Ten-leading batting average to .449 overall and .462 in conference action.
