PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Punctuated by driving in a run in each of his two plate appearances in the 10-run ninth inning rally Sunday, David Miller came to play in Purdue baseball's series at UCLA, earning Big Ten Player of the Week honors after reaching base safely in nine times in 13 chances.

Miller represents the Boilers' 10th Big Ten weekly honoree this season, extending a program record. He is team's the third consecutive Player of the Week. Cameron Perkins was honored on April 23 and Eric Charles on April 30. This marks the second time in team history Purdue has had three straight Big Ten Players of the Week. In 2008, Jon Moore (March 24), Brandon Haveman (March 31) and Ben Wolgamot (April 8) were recognized in three consecutive weeks.

Miller hit safely and scored a run in all three games of the UCLA series, finishing the weekend 6-for-10 and compiling a .692 on-base percentage. He broke up the perfect game bid by UCLA pitcher Adam Plutko with a one-out single in the sixth inning of game one of Saturday's doubleheader. The senior connected for a solo home run in the nightcap Saturday as part of a three-hit showing.

Sunday in the Boilers' thrilling come-from-behind win, Miller reached base safely four times. He drew a bases loaded walk to force in Purdue's first run of the 10-run rally. After the lineup rolled over and the Boilers had surged in front, he delivered a double to drive in the final tally of the inning. It was the last of Purdue's seven consecutive two-out, run-scoring hits.

Defensively, the shortstop handled all 11 of his chances cleanly, starting an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play with runners on the corners in the fourth inning of game one.

Twelve of the 15 plate appearances in the 10-run ninth inning Sunday featured the Purdue batter reaching base safely. There were 12 consecutive productive plate appearances during one stretch. The Boilermakers overcame a five-run deficit entering the inning while facing four different pitchers. Miller was one of four Purdue players that reached base safely twice during the rally.

Purdue returns to action Tuesday for a 6 p.m. midweek game against IPFW that will be played at Minor League stadium Parkview Field in Downtown Fort Wayne. The final homestand in the history of Lambert Field begins Wednesday.
