WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Lightning in the area forced the initial delay and subsquent rain showers led to the cancellation of Wednesday's Purdue-Ball State baseball game at Lambert Field. The midweek game will not be made up.
While it was the Boilers' fifth rain out of the year, it was only the first game canceled due to inclement weather. Purdue was able to make up the previous four games that were rained out, playing doubleheaders the next day. Midweek games that are rained out are generally not rescheduled.
The Boilermakers return to action Friday when they open another key Big Ten series, hosting second-place Michigan State at Lambert Field. The first pitch Friday is slated for 4 p.m. Head coach Doug Schreiber will be honored before the game for breaking the program's all-time wins record.
