WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Game two of the Purdue-Illinois baseball series at Lambert Field has been officially rained out. The teams will play at doubleheader Sunday at noon to conclude the series.
Rain showers began around 11:45 a.m. ET and became heavier around the noon hour. A window never materialized for a chance to start the game.
Purdue head coach Doug Schreiber will enter Sunday's action with 406 career wins. He'll have a chance to tie and break Dave Alexander's all-time program record (407) Sunday.
The Boilermakers are 5-3 in doubleheader action this season. Purdue played day-night doubleheaders at the Big Ten/Big East Challenge (won two) and East Carolina's Tournament (split). In traditional doubleheaders, the Boilers dropped two March 17 at Wichita State and won two in the March 24 Big Ten opener at Ohio State.
Lambert Field has not played hosted to a doubleheader since April 24, 2010, a Saturday split with Northwestern.
